Budawangs 3 day bushwalk - Bushwalking Leaders:Steven Hare,
Hi all,
I am going to do a three day bushwalk in the Budawangs. Leaving Sydney early (0600) on Friday 18/5, returning sunday night probably 8-9pm.
This walk is not suitable for beginners, to come you must be comfortable walking with all your gear for three days (2 nights). You will need pretty warm clothes, it may get below 0 degrees overnight.
Route will be from Wog Wog campground to Benowie Creek via Corang Peak and Corang Arch on day 1. Day 2 will be a long day trip up to monolith v
Trip report:
This trip has been completed. We had to add half of an extra day. Great trip.

G'Day,
As training for the upcoming Three Peaks Challenge (3^) attempt, but also open to others, we like to hike from Kanangra to Katoomba in one days. This trip is for fit bushwalkers only. 45km in length and about 1km of vertical climbing.
To avoid a long car shuffle we like to get enough hikers together to walk in two groups in opposite directions, meeting somewhere in the middle
Saturday Climbing - Rock Climbing Leaders:Samuel May,
A few club members will be at Lindfield Rocks tomorrow morning from 8am for some climbing. Everyone is welcome, we'll have plenty bouldering mats however you'll have to bring your own climbing shoes.
You can catch the train to Lindfield pretty easily and it's about 10 minutes walk from the station.
Wollangambe crater - ^^^ training - Bushwalking Leaders:Holger Buch,
Trip report:
This trip has been successfully completed. Took us almost six hours as we lost twice the best track on the way there.

Hi there,
as another training for the upcoming Three Peaks Challenge attempt, but also open to other keen people, we like to hike from Bell to the Wollangambe Crater and back in ideally under 4hrs in total. That means, please only sign up if you're quick, also in difficult terrain and scrub.

Bell has a train station. However, there seems to be track work on that weekend. We can sort out transport later. I wi
Manly Dam is a pretty popular track on the northern beaches. It has some fairly technical sections but this trip should be suitable for beginners. For the super-enthused we can do the loop twice!
We'll be meeting inside Manly Dam in the carpark for the furthest picnic area from the gate. Keep driving until you get to Section 4. If you don't have a car then you can get a ferry to Manly and ride from there. I can meet you at the wharf and ride with you to the start of the track
Bouldering for fun and profit. - Rock Climbing Leaders:Simon Li,
With sunny skies and cool temperatures it's definitely the start of the climbing season!
Sissy Crag is one of the classics of Sydney bouldering. Anyone who's visited has gotten strong, that's a promise. There's not a whole lot of easy stuff but it's pretty convenient to get to and always a fun day out, so definitely worth it if you're keen.
Bring some shoes, chalk, water and lunch. We'll start at 10am, just wander down the dirt path for about 100m and you're there! Any issues, give me a bu
The Coast Track (northwards, one-day, 3-Peaks-training) - Bushwalking Leaders:Holger Buch, Wolfgang Klesse,
Trip report:
This trip has been successfully completed. We saw a brown snake. About 9 hours for 33 kilometers.

Dear outdoor community,
We seek for fellows to hike with us The Coast Track northwards on ANZAC day (Wednesday, April 25th).
The Coast Track is simply one of the world's most beautiful one-day hiking trips: It leads on clifftops, through forrests and a palm jungle, over grassland, big and small beaches and through pittoresque bays.
If you are around on Sunday come down to Coogee for a bit of a picnic and slackline.
We will meet just near the stairs (in the centre of the beach) at around 2pm, if you arrive later look for Lucy, Laura and a slackline somewhere amongst the trees.
Bring along some food to share, alcohol is permitted at the beach until after dark, so feel free to indulge in such.
Outback Camping Roadtrip - Sydney to Alice Springs and Back. - Camps Leaders:Adrian Di Qual,
Hey Everyone,
I'm heading out back for two weeks, and want to put together a convoy to come with me!
Take a look at the facebook event:
http://www.facebook.com/events/323358514394826/
Otherwise, the plan is as follows:
With all the rains, Lake Eyre is filling, and if we're lucky there will be an inland ocean of birds.
So, to take advantage of this, I'm road tripping out to Lake Eyre, and seeing I've driven most of the way, will go to Uluru, the Olga's and Alice Springs too.
This session is intended for people who want to work on what they learnt last session and people coming over Easter who would like some practice. There will be limited instructing. Another beginners night will be run after mid sem.
Same deal as last time, meet at 6:45 on the grass outside the pool.
Im taking some people paddling on sunday to practice some stuff for over easter. Experienced paddlers and anyone who is pretty knew but would like to come please give me a call on 0432 866 307.
We need to get more boats down there from uni if more people want to come, i have a soft roof rack system if you can drive but have no racks!
Also im keen for Penrith whitewater saturday if anyone else wants to come with.
MTB oaks fire trail - Mountain Biking Leaders:Steven Hare,
Hi all,
Will be riding the Oaks this Sat. This is a ~25km ride mostly on firetrail with ~5km singletrack towards the end. Mtb experience preferred but not essential.
I will be getting on the Blue Mountains train at Strathfield at 10:31am, in the front of the first carriage. This train leaves central around 10:15am. We will likely be back in Sydney around 4-5pm.
The ride usually takes about 2-3hrs. If you are interested you will need a bike (preferably mtb, but can be done on a roadie if
Thursday Climbing Night at the Ledge - The Ledge Leaders:Simon Li,
Hi Guys,
Just a reminder that climbing is fun, and cheap too on Thursday.
It will be a great time to trade stories, settle debts and return found treasure from Boree Log.
Same deal as normal, $3 climbing, cheap gear hire, starting around 6pm, and a steak at the pub afterwards.
To get there by bus take the 370 from UNSW to Newtown.
See you all there!
I'm broken, so can't do most of the more active things this Boree Log, so I want a low key Bushwalk for Sunday.
I'm taking people to the Glow Worm Tunnel on the Newnes Plateau. It's a nice drive out and about an hour walk. It goes through a disused railway tunnel that is inhabited by, you guessed it, glow worms. It's amazing being inside during the middle of the day and having a starry night sky.
The return walk goes through a 500 metre long Canyon. You will get your feet
TRIP UPDATE: THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL. PLEASE DO NOT ADD YOURSELF
Hi all,
Weather permitting, will be doing Yileen Canyon on the Saturday of Boree Log. See here for description http://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/yileen.htm
I will take a maximum party of 8 (including myself) on this trip. I will be heading to the canyon from Mt Wilson on Sat morning and have space for 3 more in my car. Looking for a second vehicle to facilitate the car shuffle. I will be aiming to park the cars ar
First off - this is a longish day, and involves a fair drive out to the canyon from the campsite. Thus, I will ***ONLY*** be taking people who camp out on Friday night at Mt Wilson. I will leave there at about 8, which should get us back around 4-5.
I will set a trip limit of 12 people, provided I get enough cars. First in best dressed policy.
Ok, this is the perfect beginners canyon section. The first canyon, twister (aka sheep dip), involves 8 water jumps into deep pools,
Rennies Tunnel is an old mining shaft that is about 300m long, about 1.2m high and about 2-4m wide. It runs under Narrowneck, a rocky peninsula south of Katoomba. It will be wet and muddy through the tunnel.
The climb out is pretty fun if a little hairy. It involves climbing some tall ladders as well as rope sections. Make sure you're comfortable doing this! Other than that it's a pretty easy day's walk.
You will need the following:
- Clothes that you don't mind getting VERY dirty
- Shoe
Where: Cathedral of Ferns Campground, Mt Wilson, Blue Mountains
Joining: You can still join the club if you haven't already at Mt Wilson, but most leaders insist you sign up beforehand to determine the details of their trip. Come along to the ledge to sign up, on Thursday nights. However, for insurance purposes, you cannot go on trips unless you are a club member. (OMG if ur not a member
Boree Log Friday Night Canyon - Canyoning Leaders:Steven Hare,
UPDATE: THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL. PLEASE DO NOT ADD YOURSELF TO THIS TRIP
Hi all,
Weather permitting, will be doing Grand Canyon on the Friday night prior to Boree Log (then heading straight to Mt Wilson to camp).
I have space for 2 more people on this trip. You must be comfortable abseiling, and have canyoning experience. You will need to organise your own gear (harness, descender, wetsuit or thermals, dry bag, decent headtorch etc). I will sort out the rope.
After Work MTB around Manly Dam - Mountain Biking Leaders:Holger Buch,
UPDATE:
This trip has successfully been completed. A 5pm weekday ferry to Manly is much less crowded than I expected.
****************************
Hi there,
we like to ride a round of the Manly Dam MTB track on Wedensday after work.
Therefore we like to catch the 5:00pm ferry from Circular Quay to Manly, ride the 5km to the track, do the track, ride back to the Manly ferry terminal and take the ferry (goal: 7:30pm) back.
The track is superb, includes single trail, jumps and lar
Waterfall of moss canyon - Canyoning Leaders:Steven Hare,
Hi all,
I am planning to do waterfall of moss canyon this Saturday. See here for details. http://ozultimate.com/canyoning/track_notes/waterfall_of_moss.htm
This is not a beginners canyon. To come you must be comfortable abseiling and have reasonable fitness. If interested please sign up and email stevenmhare[at]gmail.com with your level of experience. I have space in my car for four more people, but you must be able to get to strathfield station by 0730 for a lift. I will be camping in
We will be having a welcome BBQ to all of our new members, and to showcase some of the activities the club does, with slide shows, movies, table bouldering, slacklining and other fun activities.
For those of you who can't make it to O-week, this is the best chance to join up.
There will be the usual $1 beers, and a selection of delicious cuisine (sausages).
Pre-BBQ slacklining - Social Activity Leaders:Simon Li,
If you were at O-week you would have witnessed the club's minor addiction for slacklining.
Whether you're learning to do a backflip or just take a few steps without dying (like me), it's always a good laugh. Good practise too for Boree Log!
Starting around 4.30 at the other end of the Oval, you'll see us doing these tricks:

Sorry Guys - There is a severe weather warning out for this weekend and all Canyons in all national parks are closed. Unfortunately, no canyoning this weekend.
Hey all
We've organized to go out to Newnes to do Starlight(Newnes) and Pipeline Canyons. Track notes and pictures are here:
Compensational Rain Hike in Blue Gum forrest - Bushwalking Leaders:Holger Buch,
This trip has been completed successfully.
Trip report:
The weather on the day was fine. We were a party of two. The rain in the weeks before raised the attraction of this area significantly. Down in Blue Gum Forest, we sometimes had to walk through water up to our knees. Govetts Creek (a tributary of Grose River, a tributary of Hawkesbury River, which drains to the Pacific Ocean) apparantly usually a little creek of 2m in width or so, presented itslef to us as a rapid stream of 5m width. We
Compensational 1 or 2 days hike - Bushwalking Leaders:
Hi there,
for those who wanted to go canyoning this weekend but can't and for all other weather optimists and/or those, who do not mind rain:
We want to do a hike on Saturday or maybe Saturday and Sunday, with returning on Sunday not very late) in the Grose Valley area. Maybe something like Perry's lookdown to Lockleys Pylon, but that is subject to some more research. This region is not officially closed due to the weather, still we expect bad one.
I'm going to run an introductory rock climbing day out at Lindfield Rocks this Sunday. This is a great area in the bush behind the Tryon Rd tennis courts.
The usual go is to meet at the Tablespoon cafe just west of Lindfield railway station from 10 am. From here it's a fifteen minute walk to the crag or a short drive, we'll do some car shuttles.
If you have some climbing experience, the deal is great bouldering, we'll have 2 or 3 mats and a couple of topropes for the highba
An array of canyoning adventures! - Canyoning Leaders:Larissa Tichon,
So we have 2 birthdays to celebrate, some time off and a sleeping bag and looking to get some canyoning happening! Was thinking of 2 sets of overnight trips (Thurs night and Saturday night) for the weekday goers and weekend goers. I am looking for a 4wd for one of the trips, so any help there would be appreciated. Details of the trip should be finalised by sunday
If you are a lover of the canyons then come and enjoy a weekend of canyon worship amongst fellow canyon devotees from all over. You can canyon, climb, bushwalk or whatever during the day and then join in the Festival Party on Saturday night! Or just come for one or the other.
So bring your club and run a trip or two to help kick start the canyon season!
The UTS Outdoor Adventure Club ( www.utsoac.org.au) organises an annual event we call 'Festival of the Canyon' and we would like to invit
Im organising a canyoning trip to Tuross Falls for mid January.
Tuross Falls is a beautiful 40m water fall located less than an hours drive east of Cooma. The canyon is easy and suitable for beginners, but fairly long (about 7 hours). A beautiful area with some amazing views, Tuross Canyon involves a lot of rock hoping and scrambling as well as a few swims. 6 swims of up to 100m each. If you are interested there is a spot where you can do some deep water solo climbing (difficult) and a couple
I have this friday off, and the weather looks ok so am keen to head up and do a day canyon in the blue mountains somewhere.
If you are keen please email by 8pm Tuesday steven.hare[at]unswalumni.com with your interest, and level of experience. My preference is for a harder canyon with abseils (maybe Bowens North Branch), but can tailor the trip based on the interest.
I will email details back to all on Wednesday evening.
Tasmania - Eastern and Western Arthurs - Federation Peak - Expression of Interest - Bushwalking Leaders:Luke King,
Hey guys
I will have plenty of free time this summer and loath to spend all of it working. I thus plan to go to Tasmania to do some bushwalking.
I would ideally like to do the full traverse of the Western Arthurs, then down the eastern Arthurs to a base camp at Federation peak, then, if time and weather permits, make an attempt at the summit, then back by the easy route of the Arthur plains. This part of Tasmania has some of the most spectacular mountain scenery and hanging lakes of Tasm
