The UNSW Outdoors Club is a social club for people who like outdoor activities. We like to go bushwalking, rock-climbing, canyoning, mountain biking, cross country skiing, canoeing, rogaining and just about any activity that you can do outside.
Meetings are held roughly once a month, usually in the Sam Cracknell pavillion. Announcments of the date are usually made well in advance and advertised on the club mailing list. At club meetings we show slides of trips that club members have been on, listen to guest speakers, discuss and announce upcoming trips, drink beer and meet other members of the club.
All the club trips are run by ordinary members of the club. Anyone is welcome to organise and advertise a trip through the club, and if you need help in organising it, there is no shortage of experienced club members who will be willing to help you out. There is no charge for going on club trips, but you will need to pay for your own food, equipment hire, petrol or train fares, etc. Trip leaders will often set a limit on the number of people who can attend a trip (usually 8 people, although it can be less), so it is advisable to let the trip leader know as soon as possible if you would like to go on their trip.
The club also has a supply of gear for the use of club members. We do need to charge a minimal hire fee for maintenance of the gear for use on club trips, and we do require a separate deposit, which is refunded on the safe return of the gear. A nominal hiring fee also applies if you are using the gear for your own personal trip (as opposed to a club trip).
The club has also negotiated discounted use of the Sydney University climbing wall (The Ledge) on Thursday nights.
